Huhtahalli – sports hall in Jyväskylä, Finland

When selecting the structural and façade solutions for the new Huhtahalli sports facility, special emphasis was placed not only on technical performance, appearance, and availability, but also on the quality of detailing. Ruukki’s products were chosen for the façades thanks to their smart fastening solutions – particularly the connection details between the visible load-bearing steel frame and wall elements, which supported both the architectural vision and structural functionality. Ruukki’s extensive product portfolio, clear product documentation, and design support tailored to architectural needs brought significant added value to the project.

Located in the Kangasvuori area of Jyväskylä, Finland, Huhtahalli is part of the broader development of the Huhtasuo Sports Park. The goal was to design a versatile indoor sports facility that meets the needs of various sports and integrates harmoniously into the surrounding urban environment. While the hall primarily serves football activities, it also supports a range of other ball sports.

Ruukki’s products were used for the exterior cladding. The decision was especially influenced by the technical performance of the solutions, the high quality of the fastening details, and the visual appeal of the façade. “A comparison revealed that Ruukki’s fastening details for the steel frame were particularly smart – this was a decisive factor in our selection,” says architect Jarkko Kontinen from Arkkitehtipalvelu Oy.

The Ruukki Expression façade system and the use of sandwich panels in different color variations enabled the creation of a cohesive architectural façade that follows the hall’s distinctive arched shape. “Ruukki’s façade product range is extensive and offers architects a wide array of possibilities in terms of design and detailing,” Kontinen adds.

Acoustics were a special focus in the hall's design. Following acoustic design guidelines and modeling provided by Ramboll Finland Oy, Ruukki’s acoustic wall and roof solutions were implemented to significantly improve the sound environment – ensuring a pleasant and functional space for all users.
