What improves the environmental performance of Ruukki® LowCarbon?
Ruukki® LowCarbon combines lower embodied carbon with high recycled content. This is achieved through carefully selected materials and continuous improvements in how we manufacture our products. By improving energy and resource efficiency in our operations and working closely with our suppliers on material development, we continue to improve the environmental performance of our offering.
Lower embodied carbon
The lower embodied carbon of Ruukki® LowCarbon products is primarily achieved through the use of SSAB Zero™ steel, which is made using recycled steel and fossil-free energy. For sandwich panels, insulation also plays a role. Depending on the panel type, lower-carbon mineral wool insulation can further reduce the embodied carbon of the product.
High recycled content
High recycled content of Ruukki® LowCarbon products is primarily driven using recycled-based steel, reducing the need for virgin raw materials. In selected sandwich panels, insulation materials with high recycled content further contribute to the overall recycled content of the product.

Logicenters chooses Ruukki® LowCarbon for its Tampere logistics center

In 2024, Ruukki supplied Ruukki® LowCarbon sandwich panels and design profiles for the approximately 30,000 m² logistics property In Tampere, Finland. The project included approximately 10,000 m² of sandwich panels made with SSAB Zero™ steel and 500 m² of design profiles made with a pilot batch of steel produced using SSAB's next-generation fossil-free technology.
The project shows how lower-carbon building products can be used in large-scale construction while meeting requirements for quality, functionality and architectural design.
Peakside Capital chooses Ruukki® LowCarbon for City Point Okęcie in Poland
Peakside Capital chose Ruukki® LowCarbon sandwich panels for City Point Okęcie, an over 11,000 m² logistics facility in Warsaw, Poland. Completed in 2025, it is the first building in Poland to feature Ruukki® LowCarbon sandwich panels.
The panels were manufactured at Ruukki’s Oborniki plant using SSAB Zero™ steel. Their lower embodied carbon and high recycled content support the environmental goals of the project, which was designed to meet EU Taxonomy requirements as well as BREEAM and LEED certification requirements.
The project demonstrates how lower-carbon building products can support the development of modern logistics facilities while meeting demanding requirements for performance, durability and environmental performance.
Ruukki® LowCarbon supports circular renovation in Valga, Estonia
Ruukki® Classic LowCarbon was chosen for the renovation of a commercial building in Valga, Estonia – Ruukki’s first LowCarbon roofing project in the Baltics.
The project applies circular design principles throughout the building envelope. The façade and roof use recycled materials, materials recovered from local building deconstruction and surplus materials from production. Ruukki® Classic LowCarbon, made using recycled-based SSAB Zero™ steel, supports this approach by combining lower embodied carbon with high recycled content.
Urban Partners continues cooperation with Ruukki LowCarbon in Tuusula
Urban Partners chose Ruukki® LowCarbon sandwich panels for a new 11,400 m² production and logistics facility developed for DEXIS in Tuusula, Finland.
Ruukki supplied approximately 5,300 m² of Ruukki® LowCarbon SPA 230 E LIFE sandwich panels for the project. The panels combine lower embodied carbon with high recycled content, supporting the project’s environmental performance while meeting the requirements for quality, functionality and durability.
The project continues the cooperation between Ruukki and Urban Partners following the LowCarbon logistics project in Tampere.
