The top-class properties of Ruukki® Patina panels bring elegance
and timelessness to the Clas Ohlson store in Vaasa. We delivered new patina panels to the facade of this approximately 1,500 m² building.
Standing out from the mass of commercial real estate
"Ruukki® Patina's Cor-ten® steel surface is a new and quite exceptional facade material. We had an idea of how it looks in small-scale use, but it was a new experience to see it on such a large surface. The façade material has met our expectations. The surface is lively and stylish, and it changes even over time. It arouses opinions, which is why we like it. It allows us to stand out from the mass of commercial real estates. The advantages of the product are the maintenance-free coating and long service life. We also appreciate the earthy and natural surface and coloring,” tells Jukka Airaksinen from Airaksinen Invest Oy about why they chose Ruukki® Patina for this project. “We ended up with Cor-Ten® coating mainly because we already had some experience with it as a facade material. Also because our architect Sami Rintamäki (Architect company Rintamäki Viljanen) suggested this new material, we dared to try it. So far, the choice has proven to be good and the result is very successful”, he continues
Sustainability aspect is important
According to Airaksinen, life cycle thinking is a very important part of building design these days: "For example, CO2 emissions, carbon footprint and recyclability are taken into account early on when planning building materials and structures. It's also a matter of reputation," he emphasizes.
Long-term co-operation needs to be seamless
“We have been satisfied that the observed development points both in the behavior of the material and in the installation phase have been taken forward very quickly and thus corrected and developed immediately. Now the walls are stylish and ready
for further patination”, Airaksinen tells about co-operation with Ruukki.
The customer looks forward to witnessing the patination of Cor-Te®n steel over the years. "The living material reacts to climate and seasonal changes, and the final formation of the surface takes longer. We are also looking forward to hearing
what the visiting customers think about the coating. As this façade material is new, we are considering continuing cooperation and dialogue with Ruukki about the properties and development of the material in the future as well." Airaksinen
tells.
