Multifunctional building, Poland
A postindustrial quarry in Ulina Wielka near Cracow, Poland, was transformed into tourist and recreational spot featuring a new building. It consists of four blocks placed directly in rocks, designed by ARP Manecki Architekci architectural office. The façade is made of Ruukki Liberta Cor-Ten 700 rainscreen panels.
Location of blocks, which on one side are based on natural quarry walls and overhang a former pit on the other side, creates an amazing effect. A simple and natural material such as Cor-Ten® steel perfectly fits to the severe surroundings and colors of rocks. A modern building is an important part of this reclamation project, providing an additional, multifunctional space for visitors.
