Ruukki Construction, part of SSAB and a leading supplier of sustainable, steel-based building products, is launching a new acoustic partition wall element. Designed for industrial and office construction, the Ruukki® Sono acoustic partition wall element delivers best-in-class sound absorption and brings acoustic comfort to even the most demanding indoor environments.
Ruukki® Sono, our acoustic wall element, is part of the sustainable Ruukki® Sound Environment product family, developed to enhance the acoustic performance of indoor spaces in buildings. Thanks to its optimized perforation pattern and high-quality mineral wool core, the element efficiently reduces background noise, echoes, and reverberation.
“Acoustics are a key part of the user experience in buildings. With Ruukki® Sono, our customers can design quieter, more focused spaces – cost-efficiently and without compromising on fire safety,” says Jani Backlund, Business Director, Building Envelopes Finland, Ruukki.
Top-class performance and versatility in one solution
In addition to its acoustic properties, the Ruukki® Sono element also ensures excellent fire safety thanks to its high-quality mineral wool core:
- Outstanding sound absorption (αw 0.90, absorption class A)
- Airborne sound insulation (Rw 32 dB)
- Fire resistance (EI30) – exceptional for perforated acoustic products
The element can be used both in new builds and renovation projects, and installed either horizontally or vertically. Thanks to an identical joint design, the element is compatible with standard Ruukki sandwich panels. Its standard width of 1200 mm means that the panel can also be easily split into 2 x 600 mm modules – an ideal solution for sound-absorbing partition walls.
Sustainable, safe, and easy to integrate
The exterior surfaces of the Ruukki Sono partition wall element are made of color-coated steel. In addition to standard color options, the element is available in a wide range of colors and coatings to support architectural design. Its broad application range and easy installation make it an attractive choice for designers and builders aiming to improve user comfort and interior adaptability.
“The new acoustic partition wall element – combining performance, design and safety – is a great example of how we turn customer needs and sustainability targets into smart building solutions,” says Esa Lehtimäki, Portfolio Manager, Building Envelopes Finland, Ruukki.
Sustainably manufactured at Ruukki’s Alajärvi plant in Finland, the product will be available in Finland starting from June 2025. The launch will later expand to other Nordic and Baltic countries later, offering customers a new, efficient and sustainable way to enhance acoustic quality in buildings.
