A new landmark for sports in Spjelkavik

Spjelkavik Arena serves as a key sports facility in Ålesund municipality, Norway. Located in the Spjelkavik district of Ålesund, this 6,700 square-meter multi-sport hall opened in 2024. It offers facilities for a wide range of activities, including a full-size sports hall with for 2,300 spectators, fitness areas, and multipurpose rooms.

The arena serves both local schools and sports clubs, creating a welcoming community hub that promotes athletic development and supports public health initiatives in the region. Its design successfully balances functionality and aesthetics. A smart solution for lasting performance

Ruukki supplied sandwich panels with a mineral wool core, chosen specifically to meet stringent fire resistance requirements. The panels feature a micro-profiled exterior and were delivered in colors RR 36 and RR 21, enhancing the building’s modern and unique appearance.

In addition, Ruukki delivered T130M load-bearing sheets for the roof structure. These were dimensioned to support solar panels on the roof, ensuring both structural integrity and long-term reliability.

Together, the sandwich panels and load-bearing sheets provide a durable, safe and energy-efficient envelope while preserving the sleek architectural look desired for this municipal sports facility. The excellent insulation properties help maintain comfortable indoor environment, and the durable surface ensure the building retain its visual appeal for years to come.
