Fire station, situated in the picturesque area of the Drahanska highlands, stands out for its unique architectural identity. Traditional architecture and the specifics of the firefighting profession were clearly reflected in it. Thanks to the distinctive facade and roof made of Cor-Ten steel, the building has acquired a timeless and unmissable appearance.
"The visually distinctive saw-tooth roof with its steeply sloping parts gives the building a dynamism evoking the interventions of volunteer firefighters. Design is based on the typically rural character of the building, but it has a modern, simple, clean and quiet impression on the surroundings," explains architect Pavel Pekár, the author of the architectural design.
Cor-Ten as part of the building's identity.
Materials used were carefully selected. The white stucco facade contrasts with the unique Cor-Ten steel, which continuously ages and acquires a noble patina over time. In addition, it requires almost no maintenance. Cor-Ten steel products were used on the north facade and on the saw-tooth roof. "We chose Cor-Ten for visual reasons, its appearance evokes the industrial character of the building. In turn, the color matches the traditional burnt roofing of municipal buildings. Another important factor is its properties, such as lifespan, functional durability without maintenance and at the same time its high aesthetic quality," says Pavel Pekár.
Sustainability plays an important role in architecture and construction. Therefore, it is substantial to take into account the use of high-quality, durable, environmentally friendly materials in new construction. What comes to mind for Pavel Pekár under the term sustainable architecture? "It is an endless struggle for the quality of the building since its design. Good architecture will be reflected only later in the building´s operation, mainly from the economy point of view. A beautiful building is not a guarantee of this and clinging to the price in the style of the cheapest design is short-sighted." At the same time, he considers cooperation with a quality partner to be very important. He considers the collaboration with Ruukki on Bilovice fire station project to be great and adds: "the cooperation was, in one word, excellent."
By combining modern and traditional elements, a fire station was created that is not only functional, but also aesthetically impressive.
