The New Riga Theater is the winner of the Latvian Architecture Award 2024. The reconstruction project features Ruukki’s standing seam roofing, load-bearing sheets and roof safety products. In addition to the award winner, Ruukki’s high-quality steel-based products were used in many of the projects selected for the competition as they help ensure the functionality and esthetics of buildings and strengthen their heritage value with durable materials that last for generations.
The architecture projects of the Latvian Architecture Award 2024 have one common theme: heritage. Several high-quality Ruukki products were selected among the finalists for major public projects in Latvia, such as the New Riga Theater and the Red Cross Hospital. The winning project New Theater in Riga features Ruukki’s standing seam roofing and load-bearing sheets T45 and T70, and the roof was supplemented with our roof safety products, such as snow guards. The roof of the Red Cross hospital is made of Ruukki roofing sheets.
Although not all the projects submitted for the competition reached the final, there were also several other beautiful buildings with Ruukki products among the nominees. For example, the commercial building “Lidl” on Kalnciema Street used Ruukki PRIMO Skyline 150 facade cladding cassettes, while the new Elvi store in Zvejniekciems and the reconstruction of the V118 office building used facade cladding design profile sheets.
Ruukki is constantly developing new solutions that enable architects and builders to create modern, safe and visually appealing architecture and offer environmentally friendly alternatives to the construction industry. This year, Ruukki introduced the Ruukki® LowCarbon product range, which guarantees a lower carbon footprint by using recycled-based SSAB Zero™ steel, fossil-free electricity in production and biogas in transport. The carbon dioxide emissions of Ruukki® Classic LowCarbon roof profile are up to 70% lower, while in sandwich panels, the reduction is up to 50% compared to products made of standard steel.
