Certificate awarded to Ruukki: a step towards the safest workplace in the industry

On 31 December 2021, Ruukki Construction was issued an ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management certificate by the certification provider Kiwa Inspecta. Ruukki Construction aims to be the safest place to work in the building product industry.

ISO 45001 aims to reduce accidents at work and occupational diseases, and to promote and protect physical and mental health. The certificateproves that Ruukki’s working conditions and processes are safe, and that safety and safety management systems are continuously improved.

“Each employee has the right to return home from work in good health. Safety is a value that drives everything we do, and it is also important for our customers to know that their supplier has handled everything properly. This may also be a factor influencing their choice of supplier,” says Jukka Konttinen, who is responsible for safety at Ruukki.

During 2021, Kiwa Inspecta carried out audits, or assessments, of Ruukki’s production plants and Ruukki Express service points. The audit findings were compared with the requirements of the standard, which allowed the granting of the ISO 45001 certificate.

Trusted safety management

Jere Ritari, Business Manager at Kiwa Inspecta, says that the audit cooperation with Ruukki was smooth and open.

“That in itself speaks volumes about Ruukki’s strong safety culture. In addition, the management system certification is a strong demonstration of commitment to promoting the safety and wellbeing of employees through systematic action,” says Jere Ritari.

Effective safety management throughout an organisation requires effective processes and procedures, including observation, the prevention of risks and continuous improvement of safety. “The safety certificate will assist the organisation in further developing its operations in a more systematic and effective manner,” summarises Jere Ritari.
