Melleruds Handel is a shopping center in the municipality of Mellerud in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. Ruukki supplied the sandwich panels used in the wall and the load-bearing profiled sheets. Besides the sandwich panels, Ruukki supplied the perforated Liberta 500 rainscreen panels used in the façade. The shopping center was opened in October 2019.

Ruukki was involved already very early on in the project. Other partners besides the architect included Brålanda-industri AB, who were responsible for installing the panels and load-bearing profiled sheets, and the construction company Skanska, who were responsible for installing the façade cladding.

Regional expertise

”Ruukki’s strength is its expertise, competence in the Gothenburg region: This was partly why we chose them to supply the sandwich panels and load-bearing profiled sheets,” says Leif Broberg at Brålanda industri.

As well as the panels and load-bearing profiled sheets, Ruukki also provided support to the customer in designing the required stiffness of the roof surface.

“Ruukki’s part in the project went perfectly and I’m very pleased with the end result,” Leif Broberg adds.

Eye-catching façade

The shopping center customer wanted to give the building an eye-catching golden façade on the main entrance side. The building’s owner, architect and Skanska chose Ruukki to supply the façade part.

Affixing the rainscreen panels posed a challenge for the project since it was the first time that the panels had been installed using the system chosen.

Working together with people from Skanska who have previous experience of the system, we solved the challenges together to reach a successful outcome.

“We learnt a lot but we can further develop the system to help our customers;” says Patrik Antmarker at Ruukki.

”I think the outcome is good and also the customer is pleased,” says Erik Carlsson at Skanska.

Melleruds handel shopping center has been built alongside the busy E45 and aims at more business in the municipality of Mellerud. The shopping center is home to one large grocery store, two restaurants, dozens of specialty shops and a children’s playground. The shopping center has 12,000 square meters of floor space.
