Museum of Metallurgy, Chorzów, Poland

Facade made of COR-TEN® flat sheets delivered by Ruukki accentuates an industrial character of the Museum of Metallurgy in Chorzów, Poland. The museum is located in the post-industrial quarter, in a former power plant that used to supply power to the Royal Ironworks.

The old brick building was expanded with new facilities to ensure enough space for exhibitions. New, simple structures owe their stark and industrial look to COR-TEN® steel, from which external walls were made. For an architect, it was important to use a genuine, gently aging and environmentally friendly material that will make a building last for decades.
