Rapid expansion required larger premises
In autumn 2019, the German company HelloFresh established itself in Findus' former pea factory in Bjuv, with an eye on the Swedish market. The strong growth meant that the premises quickly became too small. After an intensive construction project, a new facility of just over 27,000 square meters was inaugurated in autumn 2022. The facility now handles everything from receiving and packing to distribution of HelloFresh orders.
Technical challenges required specialized solutions
“The HelloFresh building is a unique project that was incredibly fun to work on. In addition to the design and schedule, there were a number of other strict parameters that we had to adhere to in terms of building technology. This required close co-operation with our design department who calculate and dimension our products,” says Linus Eriksson, Sales Engineer at Ruukki.
The contract to supply sandwich panels and the roofing solution for the building came from the construction company Smidmek. Smidmek had in turn received the order from Foodhills Fastigheter to design, deliver and install a complete building.
“We have worked closely with Smidmek in this project to optimize the processes, be resource-smart and economically sustainable,” Linus Eriksson continues. “This included developing extra-long lightweight purlins - twice the normal length - to fit between the columns, which were spaced more than 11 meters apart.”
Energy-efficient sandwich panel suitable for cold storage
For the walls, the customer chose a sandwich panel with a PIR core with high thermal performance, especially suitable for cold stores and food handling buildings. The customer selected the RAL 9006 color for the façade, and the panel’s flat profiling added a sleek, modern touch with its striking graphic pattern.
The building has been certified according to Miljöbyggnad* Silver and solar panels have been installed on the roof of the facility, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability throughout the project.
