Commercial building in Pirkkala, Finland

Built by Meijou Oy and owned by AARE Invest Oy, the building was completed in summer 2026. The building complex, which will be used by JIS-Automation Oy, a manufacturer of property and industrial automation systems, comprises approximately 2,000 square metres of production space and 2,500 square metres of office space. The architecture aims to create a modern, high-quality technological appearance, with the façade solution playing a central role.

One of the key architectural solutions is Ruukki’s three-dimensional sandwich panel, which brings rhythm and visual dynamism to the surface compared with conventional flat façades. Project Manager Juuso Järvelä of Meijou Oy describes the choice as a natural continuation of the company’s previous development work.

• We have been using Ruukki’s solutions for a long time, and with this project we wanted to take the next step. Rather than creating a completely black building volume, we chose a graphite-grey three-dimensional surface for the panels. It works well together with the black glazed surfaces and metal details.
• When one product provides both technical performance and an architectural appearance, there is no need for separate additional structures, he says.

The façade as part of an integrated solution

For the project, Ruukki has supplied not only the sandwich panels but also the load-bearing sheets. The façade combines three-dimensional sandwich panels with the large aluminium-framed glazed surfaces of the office section, highlighting the difference between the office and production areas, adding depth and rhythm to the building.

The three-dimensional surface also offers several practical benefits, being more visually forgiving than traditional smooth sheet metal. It does not reflect light in the same way, and potential dents are less noticeable, which means that the building retains its appearance better over the long term.
