By using SSAB Zero™ in our Ruukki LowCarbon products, we significantly reduce carbon emissions; The carbon footprint of our sandwich panels is estimated to be up to 40–50% lower than that of panels made of conventional steel. For our load-bearing sheets, and design profiles, the emission reduction estimate is up to 70%. SSAB Zero™ is made from recycled steel scrap and offers the same performance as traditional steel. It is produced using an electric arc furnace (EAF) powered by fossil-free electricity and fuels. SSAB Zero™ ensures genuine emission reductions without relying on carbon offsetting or mass balancing.

Ruukki LowCarbon is central to our efforts to reduce climate impact and develop sustainable solutions. We continuously improve our offering and work closely with partners to advance the insulation cores in our sandwich panels, for example. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond products. We aim to cut carbon emissions in our own operations by 70% by 2030 (from 2019 levels) and have already made significant progress. Currently, we use 100% fossil-free energy in our production, with a strong focus on minimizing waste and plastic use.
