Ruukki Construction combines Plannja Landsbro and Designtak operations into a new production facility in Småland

Ruukki Construction, part of SSAB and a leading supplier of sustainable, steel-based building products, will combine the operations of Plannja Landsbro and Designtak into a new shared production facility in Vetlanda, Sweden. The change will support future growth, strengthen the company’s premium roofing offering, improve customer service, and provide a modern working environment for employees.

The new facility will combine the current operations of Plannja Landsbro and Designtak, while roofing operations in Järnforsen will continue as before. Plannja Landsbro manufactures customized roofing products and accessories for house manufacturers and building industry, while Designtak produces prefabricated entrance roofs. The new production facility is designed to support efficient production and logistics flows, closer collaboration, and even better responsiveness to customer needs. Production is expected to start in 2028.

“This project is an important step in strengthening our roofing business in Scandinavia. It supports our growth ambitions and helps us provide our customers with an even stronger portfolio of specialized products and services,” says Mikael Nolborg, Vice President and Head of Roofing Scandinavia at Ruukki Construction.

Ruukki Construction saw an opportunity to develop a more modern and efficient production setup in Småland. The new facility in Vetlanda will be built by an external investor and leased by Ruukki Construction.

“Our employees and their expertise are central to this project. The new facility gives us an opportunity to create a safer, more modern and more attractive workplace while improving collaboration and production flows,” says Torbjörn Henrysson, Business Director at Plannja Landsbro.

Construction of the new production facility will begin this summer. The move into the new premises will take place during the second half of 2027, with production ramp-up starting in 2028.
