From roadmap to real action: Ruukki Construction’s steps towards net-zero

Ruukki Construction has published a climate roadmap that guides us towards net-zero emissions by 2045. The roadmap builds on the climate targets announced in September 2025. Before reaching net-zero, we aim by 2035 to reduce emissions from our own operations by 85% and value chain emissions by 40% compared to 2019. We want to help drive the construction industry towards a climate-neutral future, which requires not only ambitious targets, but also determination and broad collaboration across the value chain.

Emission reduction actions

By 2035, in our operations we will:

  • complete the switch to fossil-free electricity and expand solar power
  • finalize the transition to electric forklifts and low-emission heating systems
  • continue improving energy efficiency

In the value chain we will:

  • grow the Ruukki® LowCarbon product portfolio and explore new use cases together with customers
  • scale up low-emission logistics and improve recycling
  • collaborate with property owners to boost energy efficiency and renewable energy use

Raw materials at the heart of climate action

Over 80% of Ruukki’s total emissions come from raw materials, mainly steel. Progress in steelmaking is therefore crucial in reducing our footprint. Our parent company SSAB’s pioneering work in developing decarbonized steel will enable major reductions in our products.

Part of a broader commitment

Ruukki’s roadmap will also be published as part of Green Building Council Finland’s Building Life Commitment. The European #BuildingLife project, led by the World Green Building Council and involving 12 national Green Building Councils, supports the vision of the European Green Deal for a climate-neutral built environment.

Join us – together we can make net-zero a reality and build a sustainable built environment for future generations.
