Reconstruction of houses with roofing products donated by SSAB & Ruukki progresses in Ukraine

Humanitarian work coordinated by OperationAid to reconstruct houses destroyed by the war is proceeding in Ukraine. We are donating a total of 9,000 square meters of roofing sheets made from SSAB steel at Ruukki's Kopyliv plant in Ukraine for reconstruction work.

The war in Ukraine continues to have devastating effects. For example in Ochakiv, near the Black Sea in southern Ukraine, the roofs of almost half the buildings have been damaged due to the war, unfortunately leaving many people homeless in the process.

"Thanks to the reconstruction work coordinated by OperationAid, several houses in Ochakiv have been repaired and people have been able to return to their homes. We are happy to play our small part in the humanitarian work to help people affected by war. A high-quality roof improves people's quality of life and increases the comfort and safety of their homes," says Yuriy Obukh, Business Director at Ruukki Ukraine.

In December 2022, SSAB and its subsidiary Ruukki Construction, with the help of the Swedish charity OperationAid, decided to donate roofing products to Ukraine for use in the reconstruction of buildings damaged by Russian aggression. The roof profiles, flashings and fasteners donated by SSAB and Ruukki are manufactured at Ruukki’s factory in Kopyliv, some 50 kilometers west of Kyiv. The products can be used to completely rebuild the roofs of up to 85 houses or make smaller repairs to hundreds of houses.
