Ruukki was chosen to supply the steel frame for global transport and logistics company DSV’s logistics centre warehouse building. Ruukki’s delivery includes steel frame design, manufacture and installation. The logistics centre is being built by Lehto Group.
The logistics centre is being built in Päiväkumpu, Vantaa near Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. A start was made on erecting the steel frame in the last week of January and work on the frame will be completed by mid-April. The entire building is on target to be completed to schedule by the end of 2018.
Ruukki is contributing its expertise in steel frame manufacture, material sourcing and site construction to the project. In Lehto Group’s economically driven construction, this means identifying a cost-effective, quality option already at the design stage rather than in the price competition in the final stage. For building projects, this approach translates into predictability and reliability since the option meets the project’s aims.
“Ruukki has a long track record in supplying steel structures. We chose Ruukki to as our supplier because we know that the company can also assume responsibility to design the frame. Working with a competent partner from design to construction makes it easier for us, enabling us to keep within budget and schedule and to create a building in line with DSV’s concept,” says Jyrki Pekkala, sourcing engineer at Lehto Group.
The logistics centre is around 50,000 square metres and is largely single storey. The steel structures have been built at Ruukki’s plants in Peräseinäjoki, Finland and in Oborniki, Poland.
