Ruukki Express service centers provide roofing professionals with fast and reliable access to all roof-related products in one place. At the core of the operations is understanding customer needs and developing services that meet those needs. In Finland, Ruukki Express The Helsinki Metropolitan Area has succeeded particularly well in meeting customer needs – tailored standing seam profile production combined with the widest selection of rainwater system and roof safety products on the market has significantly strengthened Ruukki's position in the sheet metal segment.
Of the five Ruukki Express service centers in Finland, The Helsinki Metropolitan Area offers the widest range of products and services, and unlike other centers, it also has its own standing seam profile production. The standing seam profiling line was moved from the Vimpeli plant to Vantaa at the beginning of 2023, in order to provide production closer to customers in a large market area. In Finland, South Finland is the largest market for standing seam roofs. The aim was to respond to customer needs faster and more flexibly than before.
"Customer feedback emphasizes fast deliveries. The construction sites have diverse roofs, the dimensions of which can only be obtained after the groundwork has been done. We need to deliver the materials to their destination quickly," says Pasi Töyräs, who is leads Roofing Finland’s area sales in Southern Finland.
In addition to roofing sheets the aim is to sell also other products for sites with standing seam roofs. Standing seam profile production combined with the widest selection of rainwater systems and roof safety products on the market has strengthened Ruukki's position in the sheet metal market in Southern Finland. Offering customers complete roof solutions in line with the strategy has had a positive impact on sales and brought new customers.
Mikko Perttu, Store and Production Manager of Ruukki Express Helsinki Metropolitan Area, is responsible for the standing seam profiling line. Understanding the customer's perspective has also been important in production.
"I was able to join the customer in installing standing seam profiles made by us. Based on the experience, I now know what factors are important to take into account when profiling sheet metal, and in exceptional situations am able to assess whether they will affect the installation or the end result," Mikko Perttu says.
Potential for growth
Even though the line is currently run in only one shift, it is still driven to the limits of the standing seam profiling machine. Despite this, production has grown steadily: this year, the production volume has already increased by more than 20 %.
There is still a lot of untapped potential in standing seam profile production. According to Pasi Töyräs, plans for the future have already begun in order to be able to meet the growing demand also in the future:
"We are modernizing the production line to ensure higher capacity and investing in new customer acquisition as part of our growth strategy. Our goal is to be at the forefront of development when fossil-free products are also introduced in sheet metal grades."
