Boeing’s new £40m high-tech production facility is currently being constructed in Sheffield at the first European factory for the world's largest aerospace manufacturers.

Ruukki worked alongside roofing installation contractor Roofdeck to deliver panels that have been installed onto the façade of the new development. We supplied SPB170WEF mineral wool composite panels for the new factory. The panels were manufactured with a Micro Rib surface and coated with Greencoat® HIARC RR41 Dark Metallic Silver. Ruukki supplied the carrier panels, with Ash and Lacy providing the over clad external perforated system.

GreenCoat® HIARC is a highly sustainable, colour-coated steel solution for roofs and façades. Widely used in sustainable architecture, it has excellent resistance to corrosion, UV radiation, scratches and other damages. The GreenCoat® range offers an extensive choice of colours and coatings with Swedish rapeseed oil, allowing for architecturally-beautiful results, which are also highly protective against the elements.

Ruukki’s SPB WEF sandwich panel has excellent thermal insulation, it provides outstanding sound insulation and fire protection due to the material in its core, which has lowered density and low thermal conductivity. The panel itself is exceptionally energy efficient, with high strength and impeccable architectonic features, making it the ideal solution for any building with strict and precise requirements.

As well as the external panels for the façade, Ruukki also supplied panels for the internal structures of the building. The panels had a Linear L surface pattern and had been coated Polyester RAL 9010 White. They arrived on-site in summer 2018 and were installed to the interior and exterior by contractor Roofdec.

Boeing’s expenditure with the UK aerospace industry in 2016 was £2.1 billion, and the company supports an estimated 16,500 jobs in the UK supply chain with process-enhancing skills, facilitating exports and generating intellectual property. The new facility will only strengthen Boeing’s place at the forefront of the aerospace market.
