Ruukki Expression® - taped pictures for walls

Ruukki Expression® is a complete facade system based on pictures and patterns taped on the outer skin of the
Ruukki® Energy Panel System. Tapes can be through-colored for various patterns and logos, or they can be printed using practically any picture. This creates an unlimited range of design options – limited only by your imagination! Just send us your proposal in the form of a photo or drawing, and we will come back with our proposal.

Ruukki Expression® tapes are of very high quality, with excellent UV resistance. The taping work is done in our factory in dry conditions, to ensure high accuracy and excellent bonding. Panels are packed and delivered in the correct installation sequence with clear panel layout drawings.

High air-tightness of the base structure, the Ruukki® Energy Panel System, generates up to 20% savings in a building’s energy costs and improves its energy class.

The Ruukki Expression® system includes everything from design to complete delivery.

Hallé, St Peter’s Greater Manchester

Ruukki panels have been supplied to a restored church to create a new home for the famous The Hallé orchestra. The three-storey extension at The Oglesby Centre is part of a wider project to regenerate the Ancoats area of Manchester, which is historically an area of manufacturing. The Hallé’s new home for its community work in the centre of Manchester is used by schools and youth groups. It offers multiple spaces in one venue for different rehearsals and to deliver a real sense of community with new practice rooms, performance spaces, and a café and bar which are open to the public. We supplied our Ruukki Cor-Ten® Rainscreen Cladding panels for this project for an impressive finish that’s been shortlisted for the Façade Awards UK.

Cor-Ten® steel for a striking façade finish

Creating a new home for The Hallé involved adapting a former church in an old industrial area of Manchester. Cor-Ten®, therefore, was the perfect rainscreen cladding for both protection needs and a suitable aesthetic.

Cor-Ten® is an almost pure, solid steel, meaning it is incredibly durable and maintenance free. The steel is alloyed only slightly, which forms a protective patina layer on exposure to the elements. This natural, rugged patina is one of the unique properties of Cor-Ten®.

The patina begins as reddish brown in colour, yet each panel ages continuously in its own individual way to become darker in tone over time. This is expediated in industrial environments, like the home of The Oglesby Centre. Ruukki Cor-Ten® Rainscreen Cladding panels, therefore, complement the building and its home in an old industrial area perfectly.

Rainscreen panels for easy installation

To help deliver both optimal performance properties and achieve The Hallé’s vision for their building, Ruukki’s rainscreen cladding panels were the perfect choice. Elegant yet strong, they are rigid and solid to fully protect this former church building for modern day use. What’s more, they are designed and manufactured for specific project dimensions, so we were able to supply ready-to-fit panels to The Hallé’s exact specification.

It’s a real honour when your work is recognised by industry peers. So it is a huge achievement to be shortlisted alongside our fellow suppliers on this project, JWD Architectural Aluminium, in the Façade Awards UK. Our work on Hallé, St Peter’s features in the ‘Best use of rainscreen using specialist metal, to include (zinc, copper, brass)’ category.

Competition is tough, but we are in great company and delighted that our work with rainscreen panels in specialist metals is being recognised, especially for such a well-respected client.

The awards, brought to you by Roofing, Cladding & Insulation (RCI) magazine, will be held as a live-stream event on Friday 11 February, 2021. At the same awards Ruukki will be the sponsor for the category of best use of a rainscreen system using aluminium.
