Ruukki Construction has delivered steel frames for two new extension projects at Keflavik International Airport in Reykjavik, Iceland. Ruukki’s delivery consisted of the design and production of steel frames which took place at Ruukki’s plant in Gargzdai, Lithuania.

Ruukki’s customer was Ístak Hf, a leading Icelandic contracting company. Ístak has 40 years’ experience of building and other construction projects. The airport project investor is the Icelandic airport authority Isavia and the main structural designer was Verkis.

“Ístak already had previous experience of us from earlier projects and together with Isavia and Verkis visited our plant here in Gargzdai to see our production process, including tracking production phases, safety, documentation and overall impression of a clean and well-organised production plant,” said Unit Manager Arturas Barysas.

Ruukki delivered steel frames for two different extensions at the airport. First area was baggage handling and baggage delivery area where steel frame was erected in March-April 2016. Second was there area where the facilities for baggage handling personnel, offices and airport security centre were located. This took place in June-July 2016.

The terminal extensions including earthwork will be concluded in the beginning of December 2016.
