Ruukki and Cor-ten: industry-leading showcase in RCI Magazine

Ruukki are delighted to retain their position at the forefront of industry developments with their editorial feature in the latest issue of Roofing, Cladding and Insulation (RCI) Magazine. The article allows Ruukki to explain and explore their innovative use of Cor-ten steel, showcasing their position as market leaders.

RCI magazine communicate to architects and specifiers, the latest industry developments to help ensure they find ways to make their next project unique within a competitive market. Ruukki’s multi-national use of the increasingly-popular Cor-ten steel has included supplying the individual steel to award-winning projects, and they are delighted to have had the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience with their industry peers via the magazine.

With its rugged patina that ages naturally and uniquely when exposed to the elements, Cor-ten has become known as the ‘weathering steel’.  The pure steel is alloyed only slightly, allowing a protective patina layer to form on the surface when installed onto a building facade. The initially reddish-brown colour darkens over time in a process known as self-patination, resulting in an expressive, long-lasting and entirely individual finish.

As the patina remains unstable until the natural self-patination process is complete, additional care must be taken over the facade to ensure optimal protection. With their unrivalled knowledge and expertise, Ruukki are pleased to be able to educate specifiers and installers of Cor-ten on the best protection methods, exploring preservation and aesthetics within the article.

Ruukki’s use of Cor-ten has included supply to the award-winning People’s History Museum in Manchester.
