Ruukki has developed a new type of wind turbine tower structure with hub heights available from 100 to 160 metres. This new type of structure enables building higher towers and as wind velocity increases with height, higher towers are more efficient and also able to benefit from inland wind conditions. Reaching better wind conditions leads to higher average power and full load hours and consequently also to higher return on investment combined with lowest life-cycle costs.
The competitiveness of Ruukki's new structure is reached through several innovations, including a hexagonal tower concept, a new profile based on roll forming, having all joints with bolts, Ruukki's pile foundations, steel processing expertise and know-how in high-strength steels.
