Dimensions
Our technology makes it possible to manufacture 36-metre-long steel pipes without any splice welds. With splice welds, Ruukki can deliver steel pipes up to the maximum length of 45 metres. Cut-to-size piles made to the customer’s order minimise on-site splice welding, which cuts down on the turnaround time and construction costs.
In addition to ready-made steel piles, Ruukki has stocks of hot-rolled steel coils. This means that manufacture of custom cut-to-size piles can be started very quickly and the products can be delivered to the customer on a tight schedule. In addition to the sizes presented in the table below, the steel pipes can be manufactured with customer-specific diameters and wall thicknesses. Wall thickness can be specified to an accuracy of 0.1 mm.

Design tools
Steel pipe piles are dimensioned in accordance with valid European (CEN) norms and standards and/or national regulations and guidelines. The extensive size range and steel grade alternatives of Ruukki steel pipe piles support economical foundation design.
Piles may be dimensioned either as steel structures or, in the case of concrete-filled piles, as steel-concrete composite structures. Corrosion of steel piles is generally taken into account by subtracting the corrosion allowance corresponding to the design life of a structure from the wall thickness of the cross-section.
Static bearing-capacity formulas or methods based on sounding resistance can be used in the geotechnical dimensioning of piles. The geotechnical capacity of a pile is the sum of tip and shaft resistance. The load-bearing capacity of driven RR piles is usually based on tip resistance. The geotechnical capacity of driven piles can be determined during installation by dynamic piling formulas or advance piling simulations based on the stress wave theory.
The geotechnical capacity of piles and validity of the end driving criteria can be ensured by dynamic or static test loadings. The selection of pile installation equipment and installability are key issues in pile design. In the selection of equipment for driven piles, it must be ascertained that the equipment is able to install the piles to the depth required to attain the necessary geotechnical capacity.
The selected equipment must also be efficient enough to mobilise the required bearing capacity in dynamic test loading. Alternatively, a separate test hammer can be used. It must be ensured that the equipment used does not damage the piles during installation.

Order and delivery
The pile pipes are delivered equipped with load labels that indicate the manufacturer and dimension data as well as the steel grade of the RR piles. If these markings are not present, the pile pipe must not be used in RR piles.
A material certificate of the SFS-EN 10204, type 2.2, standard at minimum will be provided for the steel pipe material. Also a material certificate as defined in SFS-EN 10204 for type 3.1 is possible.
The technical terms of delivery for steel pipes manufactured by Ruukki are in accordance with the EN 10219-1 or DIN 17120 standards. The dimensions and tolerances are as defined in EN 10219-2.
