Accessories
RD piles are spliced either by an external threaded sleeve (RD90–RD220 and RDs90–RDs220) or by welding.
Splicing with a threaded sleeveThreaded sleeves are shown in picture. The advantages of a threaded sleeve are: - Easy and quick splicing
- High fatigue strength
- High-quality end result even in difficult installation conditions
Ruukki’s threaded sleeves meet the strength and stiffness requirements of EN 1993-5, Finnish national annex for mechanical splices. The tensile strength of a splice is guaranteed to be 50% of the compressive strength of the pile. |

Splicing by welding
When piles are to be spliced by welding, they are delivered with the ends bevelled for welding as ordered, generally at an angle of 30 degrees. A groove may be machined in the welding bevel to serve as a backing for mechanised welding. For details on welding and inspection, see Splicing of steel pipe piles by welding.
Bearing plates
A bearing plate is usually installed at the top of an RD pile to transfer loads on the upper structures to the pile. The standard dimensions of bearing plates are presented in the table.

Design tools
Steel pipe piles are dimensioned in accordance with valid European (CEN) norms and standards and/or national regulations and guidelines. The extensive size range and steel grade alternatives of Ruukki steel pipe piles support economical foundation design.
Design software and objects
To make both architectural and structural design work easier with accurate product information in 3D form, Ruukki offers a selection of free CAD / BIM-objects and tool sets developed as add-ons for professional designing software such as ArchiCAD and Tekla Structures to be downloaded from the Software Toolbox.

Order and delivery
The pile pipes are delivered equipped with load labels that indicate the manufacturer and dimension data as well as the steel grade of the RD piles. If these markings are not present, the pile pipe must not be used in RD piles.
The technical delivery terms of piles correspond to standards SFS-EN 10219-1 (S355J2H, S440J2H and S550J2H) and dimensions and tolerances to standard SFS-EN 10219-2. A material certificate that corresponds to at least standard SFS-EN 10204, type 2.2 is provided concerning the pile material.
