China is increasing in importance in Ruukki Engineering's business
China is becoming increasingly important in Ruukki Engineering’s business and strategy.
“The Shanghai company has been growing operations over the past couple of years and is already a significant unit within Ruukki. Business in China is part of our international strategy and enables us to offer our customers global service and top Ruukki quality, locally and competitively wherever the customer needs our products,” says Tommi Matomäki, President, Ruukki Engineering.
Leading companies as customers
Ruukki’s Shanghai unit delivers components and systems, such as cabins for mobile machinery, made from welded steel to its customers operating in China. Ruukki’s Shanghai unit has about 10 customers, most of which are leading, globally-operating European OEMs in the energy equipment and lifting, handling and transportation equipment sector.
Ruukki delivers, for example, terminal tractor frames, lifting booms for reachstackers and oil sumps for ships diesel engines to the local factories of global customers.
Demand also for special steel products
Ruukki Metals has customers for special steel products in the Chinese market.
“We started deliveries of special steel products to a few customers a couple of years ago and since then have seen a growth in customer numbers and delivery volumes. Our largest customers are manufacturers of mobile crane, concrete pump truck and various transportation platforms,” says Kari Lehtinen, SVP, from Ruukki Metals.
Our customers benefited enormously from using special steels and greatly appreciate our delivery capability in terms of both quality and logistics. We have built a logistics chain to enable us to serve customers from Shanghai to Beijing. We still see potential to grow deliveries of special steel products to China,” Lehtinen sums up.
